Real Estate and Mud Season in Maine

Looking for a nice peaceful home in Maine on a dirt road? One of the quickest ways to tell if you want to have that dream is to come during Mud Season!  What is Mud Season? Its Mud and a lots of it! Just imagine trying to drive through thick, lumpy chocolate pudding? Ya that’s it! Many people think they can drive through it, but reality sinks in quick! The ground freezes deeply in winter, it’s covered by snow, and thaws in spring. Dirt roads become muddy because the deeply frozen ground thaws from the surface down as the air temperature warms above freezing. This makes most Maine dirt roads non-passable.  Maine has many dirt roads and driving down them to view real estate can be a real challenge. Plan on having rubber waterproof boots, because you will be "trying" to walk the road.
